Demonstrating one of the many rotary phones in my house I've bought, this one features the 1956 WE 500 rotary, one of the first I bought on my own.

  • What is the thing that turns blew when somebody calls?

    RetroVintageItems27

  • @RetroVintageItems27 It's a Caller ID box. It's hooked up to the wall jack and the phone's hooked up to it. As I think I may have said in the video, this phone has had a black mounting cord fitted to it with modern modular plug.

  • I had found a Western Electric L/M 500 that dosn't have the phone jack conversion. And I want To use it.

I bought a phone cable that has 4 lugged wires on one end.

    Yellow,Green, Red & BlacK

How do I hook it up?

  • @klokwrkblu Okay first off, is line coming from the phone got the four spade connectors on it, or just two?

  • I got one of these at home and i absolutely love it. Problem is i cant use these automated menu answering systems.

  • @klokwrkblu

Google a device called 'Rotatone'. It's a device that can be internally installed in rotary phones to convert them to touchtone dialing without sacrificing the rotary dialing itself. I have one in another 500 that I use for navigating menu systems via rotary dial, and adds redial and ability to dial * and # as well.

  • I also love that old bell sound. You should sample that into an .mp3 file and make it the ring tone for your cell!

  • I miss those rotary phones. shame on technology for fazing them out !

  • what is the code you did the 9 5 9 1 1 0 ? is that just a code in your area or ?

  • I was born in 1985 and I had thee phones growing up and miss that ring.Plus it was fun dialing.

  • What ringback number did you use? I cant seem to find one that works.

  • find a jack

  • I have one of these in yellow - when my son was serving in Iraq, it was the only phone I could get a clear signal on..our cordless phones were useless. Also when we lose electricity, the rotary is there to the rescue. Great phones!

  • I have this one in my kitchen. It works well.

  • Yeah, but can you wire it for Party 7 with the Western Electric Tube?
