This video clip is a short segment of a story of a young woman getting a special custom cosmetic cover for her above the knee prosthesis that I directed and produced when I was with Otto Bock Orthopedic USA.

I became involved with John Sabolich early on while I was at Otto Bock because of my own work on an AK socket deign and cosmetic finishing technique. The finishing technique has become the industry standard for cosmetic covers getting away from the shoulder butting technique, but it is often bastardized today to cut corners and save on production time and costs to produce the prosthesis by using casting tape in place of a laminated attachment ring.

The video clip is showing the finished technique applied to the prosthesis of the patient who inspired the idea.

  • I think the leg shape and cover are brilliant and just wondered were they were made? US or UK

  • Thank You! Your question is answered in the clips description. when I was with Otto Bock Orthopedic USA.

  • Were did you have this made?

  • Not sure what you are asking. I was the producer of the videotape and the prosthesis is my fitting of the amputee as her prosthetist. The cosmetic cover was fabricated under my direction to the technician.

  • No offense however the first thing I thought of was the table lamp in the movie christmass story

  • nice job,

every prosthetist should work like that...

this is very important for the patients

  • hi there, I know this video was posted several years ago but I was wondering what kind of components where used on this prostheses. I am a prosthetic technician, and I am admiring the great job that this technician did here. Also, was this cover reinforced at all on the inside and with what. I find my covers rip and tear after a few weeks. Thanks for responding. Daryl.

  • My knee cover doesn't have detail like that :(

  • cool

  • Like, incredibly gorgeous prosthetic technology. Now you need an ultra micro mini skirt. You go, girl!
