Josh and I were on our way to Kingfisher Oklahoma from NW OKC. A storm was brewing ahead and it didn't look good, but we thought maybe we could scoot by before it got really bad. We were wrong. We watched as a huge tornado formed a few miles off the road, and just in time we turned around to go home. We could see the tornado for several minutes behind us, but we were safe. We found out later that the tornado crossed the road we were going down and probably would have hit us had we not turned around. This took place on May 24, 2011. So far 4 people have turned up dead and many houses have been destroyed. Pictures found at http://newsok.com/oklahoma-tornado-photos-may-24-2011/multimedia/photos/galle...
I think the tornado chasers who work for the weather service and TV stations do a great job in helping people to know where the storms are and where they're headed, and probably prevent more people from dying. I also think they're a bit crazy.
