@rsfff Just like there are many carcinogenic toxins, there are many toxic causes of autism. Some kids have been made ill by viral or bacterial overload, some by heavy metals, some by serious inability to digest some foods. The point is that these children are not mentally damaged, they are physically ill. That is why so many kids around the world have recovered after removing toxic chemicals and providing nutritional support, as well as emotional and educational support during recovery. i

@popcornwbutter I have, had, and will always have autism. "Treatable"?! I don't want to be cured...I wouldn't be me! My parents didn't neglect me, but they didn't know I had autism, either, so I wasn't "treated" for it. They just did their best to help me bridge to the world. And it worked...and I'm still autistic. Autistic hardships can be bridged..doesn't equal a "cure" or "recovery". Sheesh, people.

@alisonamsb Your right, they should. It's just like how so many children are wrongly diagnosed with things like ADD/ADHD. Diet has an awful lot to do with the way children develop and most doctors go for the easy option of a diagnosis...including autism. But sadly, if children are wrongly diagnosed and then don't get the correct treatment, they will continue worsening when they could in fact be improving.

AWESOME!!!! I am an anti-vac mom and have one daughter that is totally gluten and rice-intolerant! She was dying before my eyes and I decided to do a food allergy test on her. Found the culprits, eliminated them, and she began to LIVE again!
Stories like these are the exact reason why we need better diagnoses for ASD. These kids should have a diagnosis of their own. It is clear that there is a bio-medical reason for the autistic-like tendencies but if the child recovers, then it is NOT autism. The medical and educational community need to find better ways of differentiating these children and providing the appropriate interventions early on.

Maybe a better diagnosis would be Chronic Polyvalent Measles Infection, but I don't think the medical community is ready to accept that!
