my venus flytrap help request

hi i just got a new Venus flytrap, and i don't know a few things, here are my questions: can they use potting soil with alot of perlite? is it good if they are growing fast, yet dying fast? and is it ok to use sink water? my other plants are happy using it, but i don't know about my plant, i give it rain water from time to time. and when do they go to dormancy? my plants are doing ok i think, but im still worried because i waited years to get my hands on these plants and i finally got it, but i dont want to lose them again( i had an entire collection, sundews, piture plants, tickle me plants, and venus flytraps).
