This film would be a lot more effective without the dubious and redundant statements on the titles. The problem is not the availability of food, but the lack of whole food and the prevalence of processed food. The rest of the film is fine, concentrating on convenience stores and community gardens. It is ironic, that the food of the poor used to be whole foods, but now that term is synonymous with pricey food for wealthy creative class types who inhabit tony areas like my hometown.

@brocasbrain yeah, we just wanted to more explicitly connect this issue with climate change. This is more about a solution to climate change through the lens of an enviromental justice problem than it is about how climate change itself is affecting those around the world, but we wanted to make sure the connections were seen because the original audience for this were the negotiators at COP15, the UN Climate Change summit in Copenhagen.

@NorthBlockStockton Yes, maybe the system is "trying" to decimate the black community, BUT, blacks are killing blacks, not the system or the KKK. And is someone forcing the blacks in this community or any black community to drink the rot gut beer, malt liquor, and other alcoholic beverages? No. Blacks need to "come together" as a people reunited to improve and uplift their communities. With all the churches they have, why aren't the church leaders doing something as pastors did in times past?

This is a joke. Mandela foods doesn't have any poor people shopping in it, and is on its way out of business. The poor people of West Oakland "want" to eat prefab fast food because it's their "cultural norm." Most families in West Oakland haven't had a home cooked "real meal" with vegetables since the late sixties.
