This is the 1982 hit song by Johnny Lee. It went to #10 on the country charts and was the first single released from his "Sounds like Love" album. The song was also featured in the 1980 movie "Urban Cowboy." The video has on screen lyrics.

  • One of the greatest country songs - why isn't it played more often?

  • @Slick2614 Good question!

  • You did a pretty good job on the lyrics, but the song he played for the miners was "Devil's Dream", not "Devil's Drink".

"Devil's Dream" is an Old Time fiddle tune. You can probably listen to it here on Youtube if you search for it.

  • @Destiny4511 Thanks for pointing out what (in hindsight) is an obvious error in a very tactful manner. I took your advice and listen to several versions of "The Devil's Dream" (the word "The" is not on my audio track). It is a very good fiddle song and I was not aware of it's existence.

I have corrected the lyrics as best I can.

Thanks for your comment and your constructive criticism!

  • A rather poignant song, if you ask me. Seems like artistic expression becomes so legally protected it almost prevents new performers from rising up.

  • @civilwildman Anything lawyers touch will be ruined. Additionally, too many bums call themselves "artist" just to get free money. Altogether, I wonder if we are a couple of generations away from people wondering what an artist is?
