  • @IDontHoldTheTruth The Kubelwagen and the Thing are two variations of the same car. The Thing did have a bigger engine then it's Kdf counterpart but in for all purposed all Type 1s were different versions of the same car.

And yes, the Thing is way more fun lol. Unfortunately I'll have to stick with a 2.0 Golf.

  • Richard Burr is against Freedom!

  • @seadawgie Yes. I HATE him. But I do respect him for using the Thing.

  • I am not a big fan of republicans. I think that is a very classy vehicle and very down to earth with someone as much clout as Senator Burr.

  • VW Thing reliable?

First off this car may be from the 70's but it was first designed and used in the late 30's.

I'm not here to point out the Nazi connection here because it is irrelevant, but the technical advances over the past 80 years are not.

Go take a look at the VW Polo or any compact car from Europe. These cars are as safe if not safer than any consumer vehicle we are familiar with. Only they are more powerful for their displacement and more fuel efficient.

  • Burr is the man

  • cool thing

    go burr

  • Does the Senator adjust his own valves?

  • Not surprised he's a republican. Now if he can just stay out of scandals. GO FOR THE WHITE HOUSE RICHARD.

  • Disagree with his politics, but agree on his choice of car. BTW, that's a '74 Thing, not a '73 (side air vents and mirrors on the body instead of the door).

I doubt he's actually getting 40MPG. It's possible, but very hard to do. My sister's new (and safer) SUV gets better mileage than my Thing - but I have more fun with my car ;-)
