I haven't seen the circuit. But taking the diodes away from the transistor could be why they are failing. The diode helps protect the transistor in the normal Bedini circuit.

that's unfortunate! i still have my old ssg coil so i think i'm going to try the circuit out. ever think about using a compact florescent instead of a tiny little neon for protection? just a thought, may or may not work lol keep up the good work, cheers man.

About your PWM... I'm wondering if you've burnt out a track?
Can you test each track for conductivity?

Great work SJohn, its been a while.. u should do more clips, you've got some great builds.
Id love to see a circuit of this. Im trying to get a multicoil system working with my joule thief (check out my vids)
I can charge SLA Batteries but it struggles on larger car batteries.
Have u scoped it to see how high the HV spikes are?
Bummer about your PWM - is that one of those $90 jobs from Jaycar... They have cheaper $20 ones set at 2kHz (but u can mod it)
Hey man, beautiful setup you have there. I'm guessing you are done with the whole rig by now, how is it working? i've always wanted to mess around with a SS bedini circuit.

It's been complete for a little while now. It works very well but I have blown ten of the transistors. So annoying and not all that cheap to repair at $12 a piece. Because the device is so powerful neons can't protect the circuit like they can with a normal SG. Within a few seconds of removing the output cables while it is on the smoke appears!

Beautiful work - you seem to be getting a very good charge rate too! Did I hear you correctly - did you say that the base diode was removed to get the trigger to self-oscillate like that? - best regards...

Thanks, you heard correct. There is no base/emitter diode as well as no cores in the coils. I'll post a quick vid showing a scope shot and circuit diagram soon.

Yes i noted the exact same thing about the neons it seems all energy is pulled out from the coil.... I think the coil acts like a transformer.

I'm not sure but it could be because they are on the same spool. I would like to try it on a multi-coil but I don't want to risk blowing all the other transistors. Too much soldering to fix it :-)
