Strange behaviour in wild (где раки зимуют)

I was finishing off filming crayfish mating and I spotted a tyre full of male crayfish. It's hard to say why they had joined together and what they were doing there - possibly preparing for winter hibernation. I would appreciate if someone could answer this question.

@adammoore251 They definitely were not trapped becasue there are lots of tiyres with a few of them (3-5) in every one but not in such amount. They easily can get out - I saw how they were doing it many times.

@underwaterireland My therory is after the spawn they went in there individually to hide or moult and ended up getting trapped. Test it out..put some food in there and see if it happens again. then repeat it a few times to confirm. they seem to be damaged and fighting and i know if they are loosing a battle they done hang about. I had 2 in a tank so i studied there behaviour for quiet some time till i rehomed the lesser dominant
