This video is taken from a tv show called "Avlea" broadcasted christmas time 1994.
I want to thank my dear friend Yiannis from Greece who provided me with this rare DVD show.
I also want to thank Mr Angelo Raphael our Greek mentor in Israel for his endless assistance and support for the translation of this song and so many other songs.

Agrigento*

Music: Giorgos Zikas
Lyrics: Giorgos Zikas
Performance: Giorgos Dalaras
Album: Kalos Tous-Welcome ,1994

The love flees, hides under the snow
Runs to survive the fires
The fires that haunt it for years
Are they ours, foreign or old ?

And they leave us stranded
In ruined streets
As castaways in the wrath of burning

Humanity's tenacity for years long
Crusts and opens deeper wounds
In Agrigento I was deviously rejected
In Syracuse are stealing hearts.

*Is a city on the southern coast of Sicily, Italy. It is renowned as Greek ancient colony Akragas built 6th century BC.The melodie of the region is reflected in the song.

  • Sara, thank you so much for posting all the rare Dalaras. He does some beautiful Hebrew and Spanish as well. Greek-Jewish Israelis just adore Dalaras, because we speak Judeo-Espanol, and his Spanish is so beautiful to listen to. We also have Cuban-Jewish friends and his song Luna Rosa, set in Cuba is great. Take all the politics out, I love the Che' song as well.

Does anyone remember a song Dalaras did about 20 years ago, in Spanish, about a man who kills his lover and is going to be executed?
