David Watkins http://www.davidwatkins.info playing the Jean-Baptiste Cardon, harp sonata, one of the cornerstones of the harp repertoire, during a concert at Hammerwood Park http://www.hammerwood.mistral.co.uk/concerts.htm

Of course the automatic volume control on the camera kills the dynamics so it's really worth seeking out a CD of David Watkins.

David Watkins is playing this faster than normal (what a feat!) and we did our best to film David's fingerwork. David comments that because the 3rd finger is longer than others, it should be held higher than the 4th finger. You can see the repeated notes with the left hand at 4:20 and 5:10

  • Sometimes on this video and others it looks as though David uses his fifth finger - he doesn't. He says that the fifth finger follows the 4th, so that it looks in use but isn't really.

  • Feel like a sir...Amazing.

  • this piece is COMPLETLY obsurd and RUDE to say the least .. a real insult to harpers world wide!

  • Wonderful!

  • Best I've heard. Thank you for posting.

  • David Watkins is such a legend! However I prefer Masumi Nagasawa's rendition of this piece.

<3 this piece. Playing it myself =)

  • thanks for the video, i was not familiar with this.

Quite fantastic considering the physical dexterity needed, and shown here. this piece seams quite eclectic as in it feels like a italianized french dance with chromatic freedom in the melody. Overall a very vibrant and interesting piece of music

    thanks again for sharing this.

  • just lovely

  • exquisite!
