Having never played together as a group before, the 3 of us had about an hour to sketch out a framework for a 2-hour live show that was being filmed and recorded, and about 20 minutes of rehearsal time. Almost entirely an improvisational concert, one of us would take the lead on an idea, while the other two would support the effort musically.

During the concert, Steve Sklar performed vocals (Throat Singing), played Guitar, Igil, Didgeridoo, Singing Bowls, Ocean Harp, and Gong.

John Pascuzzi played the Tuvan igil, Hang Drum (Hang), and Waterphone.

Dr. Richard Grossman sang some vocals, and also played a number of various instruments (Conch, Mouth Harps, Rainsticks, Shakers, Gong solo, etc) and provided soundscapes and ambient sounds, similar to his solo Sound Journey concert experiences.

  • Greetings from the Torres Straits in Australia. I love this didj and hang combo you guys got working so well together, keep up the awesome work. Eveytime I have friends over I show them your vids. This region is dominated by percussive instruments and it would be nice to see someone take up the Hang and adopt this instrument into Island Life. I have a relative who played for 'Yothu Yindi' , I hope to convince him to take it up hahaha. Anyway, looking forward to more of your posts :)

  • @MowMowMowDiittyMow Thanks very much, mowmow :) I have a few 'Yothu Yindi' CDs, love playing the didj too, and even had the privilege of having a couple lessons and hanging out with Aboriginal elder Djalu Gurruwiwi and family when they were in the US a few years back.

  • Yes, the silence after the piece was over stretched out very nicely. I just sat for awhile and watched the lightening bugs outside echoing the music. Took awhile to get back in my body enough to type this. :)

  • @WhiteTiger333 Thanks for the comment, that's exactly what it's supposed to do! :)

  • Awesome sounds! You guys played amazing music together with so little time to rehearse! I feel so calm and at peace while I listen to this song:)

  • @ZenBeach1 Thanks very much ZenBeach !!
