WNEV changed its call letters back to the historic WHDH sign in 1990. Before 1982, it was WNAC. WNEV was long the market doormat, until Ed Ansin owner of WSVN Miami, adopted a flashier presentation. It is now tied for #2 with WBZ overall. WNEV was a CBS station at the time, but would switch to NBC in the mid 1990s.

  • This was a pretty good theme package, I haven't heard many of these cuts since many of them were posted on YouTube in the last year. The NMSA only has the main closing cut as the theme, so listening to these opens makes even sound even better. This was one of Randall's best theme!

  • They didn't revise them, other cuts of the package were simply used.

For example, the cuts in this video are generics that were to be used on early & late evening newscasts respectively, if something pre-empted either.

  • All major markets will be standard in the next few decades. Channel 2 will be CBS Channel 4 will be NBC Channel 5 will be FOX and 7 will be ABC.

  • And the video collages mixed with the graphic presentation let you know you were watching a Boston TV station... in stark comparison to generic graphics today which could be used anywhere.. or just a plain open with no real intro.

  • It's Tanya Hart, the former host of WBZ's "Coming Together"

  • I like the first open, it sounds so nice beautiful work from Michael Randall (if he's still around.)

  • Is that Sara Edwards providing the v/o on the WBZ open?

  • I concur. It felt so 80's and was pretty damn jazzy, too.

  • The Michael Randall Music used in those WNEV opens would be later revised in 1990 after the callsign switch.
