Randall Franks,"Officer Randy Goode" from TV's "In the Heat of the Night," makes a special appearance with King of the Smoky Mountain Banjo Raymond Fairchild and his Maggie Valley Boys in a concert at the Wink Theater in Dalton, Ga. on April 24, 2004. The event honored the career of north Georgia radio personality Otis Head. Cody Shuler of Pine Mountain Railroad and Bruce Moody was performing with Raymond's band.
Fairchild holds two gold albums and is an inductee in the SPBGMA Hall of Greats and a five-time recipient of the Bluegrass Banjo of the Year Award. The Maggie Valley Opry House hosts his performances from May through October when he is not making a special appearance.
Many are not aware that Raymond has musical roots in Northwest Georgia. Early in his career Whitfield County radio host and grocer Head brought Fairchild to Dalton where he performed regularly at Head's Plainview Superette before Head produced Fairchild's first album and helped him land his first appearance for the Grand Ole Opry.
