La Course En Tete - Head Of the Field (1974) follows Belgium cycling star Eddy Merckx at the peak of his career through Europe's best races
The Cannibal Belgian superstar, Eddy Merckx, is arguably the greatest cyclist the world has ever known. His dominating career through the 1970s continues to overshadow the achievements of today's bicycling supermen. Merckx won just about every race that was worth winning - including seven victories in Liège-Bastogne-Liège, three wins in Paris-Roubaix, and two victories in the Tour of Flanders. He was a World Champion no less than three times and won both the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France an incredible five times each! Merckx's amazing Hour Record ride in 1972 stood for 14 years.
This film shows his day to day life of training and racing

These days you just don't see Grand Tour riders running into markets to get a load of drinks—in glass bottles!

@arklat - Oh yeah... muttonchops, sideburns and a cool weave were the order of the day back then. They didn't look like the emaciated, .25% body fat specimens you see in bike racing today.
As i also commented in Part 2 of this video, these guys knew how to EAT on the road, too. Real food, a lot of it, and plenty of refreshments to wash it down with.
They were just bigger, stockier guys back then.

Why is it that these Euro guys always need a haircut? Was that the style then?
