  • Must admit kudos to the chap here, but please, please put the radio on a non scratch surface, I was cringing as he moved it around listening to the scraping sound of the work surface he had the radio on.

  • @forzacfc haha yah it didnt scratch the desk or the radio

  • Nice video KC....How do you feel about using a metal-shank screw-driver? I saw the shank touch the frame and 'pot' at the same time during your 'demo' which could be problematic with a floating-ground which the 959 probably has. A plastic SD may be a better choice eh? Otherwise...nicely done video KC. Keep up the good work...give us more vid's!

    73's....

  • well actually the part it touches (chrome like color) is plastic the whole front is plastic and has a chrome paint on in. kinda cheep but it works

  • oh yah and the pot is completely plastic too.

  • @pharmerzz BTW my VR 17 looks different than the rest... its black.. Any ideas??

  • Is that a newer 959? SN 95959418 and onward.. I am getting conflicting info on the VR for SSB ALC... Thanks!!

  • hi good job i was wondering if you thought of installing a less coom board on the radio what it is a frequncey board for above and below 40 channels it comes in handy when channels are crowed and lots of people talking during skip

  • @Rumpaltin Cont: I have the RF Pwr, and Mic Gain maxed and he could here me but i was not moving his S meter at all, and said I was not loud but was clear, the Pwr/S meter on the 959 as well as I SWR did not move any on transmit either, and one more thing it moves off Freq on XT as well "27.185MHz" on RX - "27.186MHz" on XT. Not sure what he or his Tuner-Tech did to it. I know a bit about tuning radios but don't have an O-scope or dummy load to do any real tuning test.

  • I have a ? for you, I picked up a DX959 off Ebay, seller advertised "PEAKED & TUNED" I know after hooking it up in the car and to the SWR meter it has not been, or maybe it has but the person the PEAKED & TUNED it PEAKED & TUNED it down to the minimum it could possibly go. I though the SWR was great as it never pulled off 1, but in my many years of CBing I know this to be almost impossible, After tuning the DX99v and then putting 959 in right after same person I was talking to could not here me.

  • @flyingeagleone It's only 11M. It's not a 10M radio.

  • does the radio broadcast on 11 meters?

  • Couple thoughts: Crazzy, calm down.. plastic tuning tools are for transformer cores. It's okay to use a metal driver on a pot.

Also, set the power to whatever you like, because you already violated part 95 if you are making adjustments without a GROL.

  • Hi KC great video and yours is the first one I thought of after a phone call I received the other night.

A friend of mine who is on active duty out of the country told me he had purchased a 959 from someone. He was asking me what would I recommend for peak tuning wattages on AM and SSB.

So what would you recommend for maximum wattage for a non USA regulated tune up. He wants more power out of it but he doesn't want to abuse it either.

    Thanks

  • You just know that everyone out there is going to exceed 4 watts!! BWAA HA HA!!
