  • holy crap colbert plays violin!

  • A splendid violinist to be sure!

  • @ipmoic In my opinion, the excellent shifts that you categorize as technical skill are part of the musicality; his shifting is what contributes to the sound and beauty of the piece. I also find that he uses vibrato impeccably and that it can be very strong at times.

You have the right to disagree with me, but I find that Koelman is a fine violinist indeed.

  • AHHH!!! What´s that fingering he does at 3:22! That´s cool, but I can´t see what he does. It´s really sassy!

  • Rudolf Koelman is one of the world's best violinists, obviously. One of the things that is particularly satisfying is the logical perfection of his technique. There is not the slightest contortion or awkwardness in stance, left hand nor right hand. Effortless shifting, splendid modulated vibrato. Finger action is perfectly clean and square. He's got perfect hands for the violin.

Tone is beautiful. Musicianship is flawless. Everything looks effortless.

    Gotta problem with that?

  • @bassetmuse Nothing to do with his nationality, Heifetz or the color of his skin. I guess it's a matter of personal taste. I hear an excellent violinist that musically leaves me frigid. He uses plenty of excellent shifts and string changes in his vast technical arsenal, but it doesn't add up to music. To me, more like a stunt. (And this time I shut my eyes).

But I completely respect your opinion to disagree.

  • @ipmoic Do you say that based upon his training (Jascha Heifetz) and nationality or because you really know this to be fact? His playing is far more moving than many of our infamous "moving" violinists who look like contortionist idiots on the stage. Don't watch, listen. When I listen, I hear incredible skill and artistry.

  • What purpose does this truncated version serve? Didn't they have a couple of extra minutes to spare??

Yes, this is devoid of ANY sentimentality.

Cruelly clinical and, more importantly, he manages to make it sound boring.

  • fantastic!!

  • very impressive and excellent skills....
