Legendary Cleveland horror movie hosts Hoolihan and Big Chuck interviewed Tim Conway and Ernie Anderson on the release of their comedy album "Are We On" (late 1966 or early 1967, I think) for their Friday night show on channel 8. Ernie Anderson had previously hosted the channel 8 Friday night Shock Theater movie as Ghoulardi. Tim Conway had been Anderson's comedy partner some years before Ghoulardi. By the time this interview occurred Conway and Anderson had both moved to Hollywood. Note how Hoolihan calls Tim Conway "Tom." Tom was his real name. He changed it to Tim when he got to Hollywood because there was already another actor named Tom Conway.

  • Do you know what the best thing about Hoolihan & Big Chuck was? What? No one else does either? No really, their comedy was effortless ... almost too much so! I'll love 'em 'til I die!

  • Before Ernie was a great V/O guy. You can tell Ernie wants to deliver "The Winds Of War" in the guy to right's ear canal.

  • As a native Clevelander, this brings back unforgettable memories.

  • @meesalikeu i dont think so. its not going to get better but much worse. we are in the end times according to the bible. but thats good news for those who are saved. very soon in the blink of an eye those who truly recieved jesus will be gone. i hope big chuck and john and hoolihan are saved., i talked to hoolihan and he said he was. i hope so. the best skits are yet to come in heaven.

  • this is what tv should be today. nothing like those friday nights on the floor with my sleeping bag and pillow in the dark watching a scarry movie with hoolihan and big chuck. and lil john

    sure miss those days

i was on the show a few times and sitting in the audiance big church said come and tell a joke on the camera. he had to ask me three times before i got the nerve to do it , but i did it and it was great. , still have it on video

  • the best thing about hoolihan and big chuck show was it gave a kid a reason to stay up late on a friday night- way past his normal bedtime. even hoolie's weathercasts during the day would crack me up- he was that funny. seriously, bob, you made the howard hoffmans, the del donahoos, even the al rokers seem stiff and stodgy. even mild-mannered dick goddard was known to let loose a bit on the show. thanks ernie, hoolie, chuck and john (and ron sweed, too) for many great friday/saturday nights.

  • Top Hollywood Star- - LOL

  • that was truly hilarious.

i cant help but to be reminded that today cleveland has half the population and half the homes and buildings it did in the 60's when this was filmed. will it ever come back?

  • Now, THAT was FUNNY! From the awkward greeting to the total disinterest and then the walk off... excellent!! Forgot that Tim (Tom) Conway is from Cleveland area. Ernie Anderson was such a talent too. Miss his ABC voiceovers something bad. Thnx for the post!

  • Chuck, you're so "thin"! See what chowing down all that kielbasi will do!
