In 1969 Frank Allen at one gig said this was The Searchers new single, it was never released until years later when it appeared on the CD Second Take as a bonus track.
It is possible that this track was going to be the first single on RCA.

The track was written by David Gates and featured on the debut album by Bread

  • I remember a band called Matchbox (Not the rockabilly one) recording this on RAK records around 71 or 72. Didn't realize it had been done before.

  • This is one of my favorites -- nice shot of you with Frank and John at 2:08, Roy!! Can't figure out why it wasn't released except as a bonus track!

  • @rcpinsa Hey Hey I dug it out found in my

basement storage. It is don't shut me out

performed by a band called the Underground Sunshine released by a co.

called Intrepid Records in 1969. More like

the acid version especially B side take me

break me. Band is from Wisconsin Area!

    Great old sound !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @rcpinsa Can't say for sure I no longer hav the record. However the beat and

singer voice sounded exactly like this.

I recall the record co. name was something like anchor records !!??

  • Gary sent me the link to this video you posted, Roy. Thanks for posting this great track! I'm a fan of Chris Curtis, obviously. :-)

  • Total perfection! The harmony, the guitar licks, OMG. Chris' falsetto is just as clear as a bell. Thanks, Gary!

  • A version of "DON'T SHUT ME OUT" was released in 1971 by a band called "MATCHBOX" on Micky Most's 'RAK' lable. The band included ex-Fourmost member 'GEORGE PECKHAM' ('Porky's prime cuts', check your 70's vinyl!) ROD LYNTON (GTR on Lennons 'IMAGINE' L.P.) & other session musos. Not a hit, but a good version of the David Gates song. When i find my copy i wiii attempt to post it. P.s. They appeared on T.O.T.P, but i have not seen it since !
