    yes that is one of two queens :) 

  • Nice clip, AE! And very interesting that these wood ant queens are tending to pupae like this, without workers helping; they are generally thought incapable of raising their own young, which is why they can't start new colonies on their own, like other species of ants can. Did you add the pupae yourself separately? Even so, it is a good observation that they can do this!

    yes i added them myself as i knew about how they dont normally found colonies on their own, all of these pupa eclosed and i released them into my garden last month where they have a small mound ;)
