Raised in Minnesota of Scandinavian ancestry, I was amazed how many people there picked up pieces of a Scottish accent apparently by way of Canada. I even caught myself saying "aboot" instead of about a few times. Minnesota dialect is close to what Brits call "Broadcast English" but still has a few little quirks like "aboot" and somebody might ask you to "borrow" them some money (lend). In college I dated a Brit lady with a genuine Cockney accent. Aussies and Kiwis talk funny??

What a great Northern accent this newsreader lass has! Most Aussies and Kiwis can't easily tell each others speech apart, as a rule, but in UK, 'experts' can trace where a person was raised purely on their accent! Wonder why Aussies and Kiwis speak so alike, yet Brits sound quite different, depending on where they were raised. Must be something 2 do with Celtic speakers and national identity. Some Scots/Irish/Welsh accents are so thick u cdn't cut them with a chain saw! Love those Celtic vowels!
