@MightyJosh1985 Also Keating was awarded the worlds best treasurer by euro money magazine in the 80s for his economic reforms to open up the Australian economy. Thank you that someone had the bloody guts to reform our economy. Look at the opportunities we all have because of a free market. Howard came in and only made 1 good reform in 11 years [GST] and at the same time soaked up the mining royalties and pissed it all out in middle class welfare.

@MightyJosh1985 Actually Keating put a stop to high interest rates of the 70 and 80s by ending centralised wage fixing and introducing the incomes accord. Therefore ending wage breakouts and inflation. Keating was a champion of the free market. People often forget that interest rates were once capped at 14% during the 70s although the real figure would have been 22%. Since 1991 when keating was still PM interest rates have fallen and inflation has been dead for over 20 years.

Keating was a good PM who passed important reforms but all these Laborite commenters need to come to terms with the fact that he and Hawke left the country with an insane amount of debt that Howard paid off

There's nothing in todays politics to match Keating at his pugnacious best. This withering attack on John Howard, exposing all his failures, whilst he sits there cringeing, seemingly,arrow ridden, is Keating classic. Keating was 'The Greatest', at taking out his opponents liver with an ice pick, and making it seem hilarious. Howard probably still has nightmares about the hidings Keating gave him. At least I hope so.
