Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658) was an english statesman and leader. He led the puritans as general to victory in the civil war against King Charles I and gave all authority to the parliament. But in 1653 he took the power himself and ruled as lord protector over England, Scotland and Ireland. Under his reign England flourished and its rise to world power began. Although his reign lasted only for five years - until his death in 1658 - it has changed England forever.

  • A Great Englishman who despised corruption and a true man of the people . He brought great learning and universities to this country and was a great statesman .....The only modern day politician who commanded such respect from was the late David Penhaligan .I think he would turn in his grave to see what this once great country has become .

  • Oh to have a righteous man in government again!

  • @lovelybrother29 It's ignorant to adore this figure as he was an innocent slaying, revenge seeking demon who hid his horrific atrocities with a false blanket of pride & nationalism when defeating Charles I. He wiped out 25% of the Irish population for Christ's sake! And then Loyalists wonder why the Rebel Armies, IRB, IRA, P.IRA, and their Splinter Groups where formed. Denial & oppression of freedom will get you killed, mate. As will greed & selfishness.

  • Who is so ignorant to dislike? God b are protector and are only hope, faith, and love to look for peace. Amen

  • As I recall, when Charles II returned as King, most of the regicides, still alive, that took part in the trial, were tried themselves and put to death.Cromwell and several others that had died, were dug up, their bodies hung, and then drawn and quartered.

  • In regards to the meeting of minds known as melon and W.T. President Kennedy was killed mainly for this: Executive Order 11110...giving the treasury the responsibility to print and coin money effectively erasing the Federal Reserve. Every other so called reason for his assassination is diversion.

  • Not an English Civil War, but an English Revolution, with issues still yet to be resolved. Oliver Cromwell, sowed the seeds of Democracy in England, getting rid of a corrupt, absolute Monarchy,A man of his time, who put the Nation first, a great Englishman, who has been rightly called Gods Englishman. It must be remembered that terrible atrocities took place on both sides of the divide,

  • nice speech at the end but he is still a bloodthirsty killer who killed people who wouldnt let him have his own way!

  • God saved Oliver, so forget all you Irish rebels, you are off to Hell , Olivers already in Heaven ,GOD BLESS.
