The cadenza section in the third movement of Joseph Schwantner's 'Concerto for Percussion' (orchestra version published by Helicon Music).

I wrote and improvised the cadenza around themes from all three movements of the piece. While 7 minutes worth of cadenza might be a bit heavy within the concerto itself, this was also the closing piece of a 60+ minute recital (I even included a brief snippet of another piece on the program, 'Matre's Dance', right at the beginning of the cadenza).

Visit PeterSaleh.com for more if you enjoy the performance.

  • amazing!

  • I meet Mr. Saleh for YOCJ. He's a great percussionist at our Wind Symphony and is definitely a funny guy.

  • I respectfully disagree. Bozzio is a great drummer, but he relies heavily on the sheer size of his setup - due no doubt to his intest in making a visual impact on audiences - and in my opinion does not explore motif and timbre within a confined instrumentation nearly this much. This setup on has 7 surfaces (BD, timbales, 2 toms, bongos) compared to what must be over 30 in Terry's setup.

  • Terry Bozzio has some videos out that are similar to this stuff.

  • Great concerto and great played!

  • great!

  • Wow awesome performance.
