In this interview, Stefan Stojanovik, from the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV / AIDS (UNAIDS), gives his views on the use of drugs in south east Europe prisons.
He warns of the grave health situation in Russia's prisons and offers advice to the authorities in the 'Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia,' on what steps they could take to avert the transmission of HIv and Hepatitis B and C by released prisoners.
Stojanovik was a keynote speaker at a two-day conference in Skope organised by the Council of Europe's Pompidou Group, to examine the health challenges of drug use in jail which confront prison administrators and increasingly, the wider society.
