The 6th and LAST in the series answering the VOMIT activists claims against vegans. I know you're relieved. ...This is where they preach at us not to preach. The only thing anyone is allowed to be judgmental about anymore is being judgmental. Mustn't judge anyone for anything, except perhaps for murder or child abuse...oh, or for being vegan and not silent about it...the worst of sins in the cruel world of human denial and dementia. ...Up theirs.

  • I have a question for you.

Suppose we could synthesize all food, meat included, which means there would be no animal exploitation involved.

Would you be able to enjoy meat grown in a lab?

I enjoy meat myself, but then again I buy my meat directly from a farmer I know or it comes from wild game I hunt. My father catches cod regularly too. I live in a small country in Europe.

I believe the industrial revolution has damaged man's connection with nature, animals are thought of as a product.. :s

  • @Sindrijo I'm all for lab grown meat for people who insist on flesh, but I don't want it for me, I do love vegan food and find it very health promoting. And animals as products is inevitable when they're being bred for slaughter & profit, and treating sensitive lives as products really should be way beneath us as human beings. 7 billion people require industrialization of the meat industry to meet the demand and be cost effective, and meat's not needed by us. Thanks for the thoughtful question.

  • @1221solstice2012 Why should it be beneath us as humans? Is it an ethical absolute and duty to avoid at all costs the killing of animals because the animal has a brain able to comprehend pain? I think it is too soon to distinct humans from animals...

Anyways if Vegans hope to have a real effect on the world they should start boycotting the international cereal industry as much as possible and only buy directly from farmers, as well as promote biodiversity and use of perennials

  • @Sindrijo It's beneath us because or goal as human beings is an ethical and peaceful civilization, and we should be able to empathize with others including animals, obviously. And we are not carnivores so can well do without slaughter. Vegans are perhaps 2% of the population now, so why should we, or anyone, boycott the cereal industry? Makes no sense to me, I buy mostly organic cereals. You want to talk environmental devastation?

  • @1221solstice2012 PS: Anyone who looks at that link, please try to ignore the Peter Singer quote at top of that article...I cannot stand him.

  • @1221solstice2012 Also, cattle can be raised to be healthier on the same amount of land that is required to grow the corn they are fed with. Isn't that odd?

Also I am of the opinion that while we are able empathize with animals it does not mean that we are somehow ethically obliged to stop killing them for meat. I believe eating meat is part of being human, because we have done it for a long time. Like part of being a lion is eating meat. No animal is exclusively carnivorous.

  • @Sindrijo People have done a lot of horrible things, forever, doesn't mean we should keep doing them. Lions DIE if they don't kill & eat meat, people thrive being vegan, you can't compare a natural carnivore with a human in civilization. Your appetite is simply a habit; habits can be changed, but if you don't want to be vegan, don't, no need to try to change my mind about it; there really is nothing to criticize about informed veganism, so the continual hounding by people is offensive.

I'm talking about the big multinational corporations that pretty much control the worlds food production between them. The only reason its economical to use corn ect. to raise cattle for slaughter is because these big corporations are competing with local farmers around the world, forcing them to grow more, use their seeds ect. creating an overabundance. A vicious cycle. I didnt mean boycott the cereal industry as a whole but the big bad companies. :)

  • @kuwaizair Saying that a culture that accepts abuse and slaughter of innocent/helpless/harmless lives to needlessly eat or otherwise use them by choice is a culture where baby rape/murder and other horrific crimes will occur is not saying that anyone who eats meat is a baby rapist or murderer...it's saying you're in denial and contributing to a brutal, phony civilization that spawns such sociopaths who will commit those unspeakable crimes.

  • you have it backwards. the vegan attacks a omnivore by comparing them to baby rapists, murderers.
