"Walk One Way" single on United Artists, spring 1969 release
Written by Steve Roudebush

The Lost Tribe...

Band members:
Reed Martin, lead vocalist
Steve Roudebush, leader, drummer, harmony vocal
Tom Roudebush, bass guitar, harmony vocal
Walt Strycharz, lead guitars (there is a double lead solo)
Steve Momii, rhythm guitar, harmony vocal
Darryl Mataroza, Organ, harmony vocal

History:

Summer 1967, band recorded a 3 song demo. Steve and Tom went to New York and landed an audition with Epic records for October 1967. At that audition, Epic told the band the song and talent is strong, but the band needed a strong lead singer....to find that and come back.

Early 1968, Steve recruited Reed Martin, singer in a rival local band called "The Gigs" to sing on the single and join The Lost Tribe if it is successful. Reed requested for Darryl Mataroza (also with the Gigs) to also join in and it was agreed.

Spring 1968, the band recorded "Walk One Way" at Bradley Studio in downtown Baltimore.

Summer 1968, Steve and Tom took the recording to New York City to Epic Records. Their contact there was out to lunch when they arrived at the offices there, so they went to lunch also and walked by the United Artists building, where Steve decided to attempt a "hearing" there. Henry Jerome of U.A. listened to it and offered a contract on the spot. Steve and Tom shook hands with Jerome and the deal was struck.

Spring 1969, the single was released by United Artists nationwide. Unfortunately, United Artists was not good at promotion and the single did not get the "push" from the label that it deserved. Despite high acclaim from promoters and critics, since the label did not promote it, the single fizzled, getting just a little air play in various cities nationwide.

  • I actually found both songs on a FACEBOOK page, both songs are KILLER

  • The band would love it if you bought a copy from the link he listed in the description....just 99cents.....Rock On..!!...Tom Roudebush (bass, harmony)

  • @Tomaji69 Just now saw your reply and thank you for it. Again, a great song and many thanks for recording it. Wow!

  • @eggmanrules - I love hearing this from you all....I think there'll more information up here on this song soon..

If you wanna help promote it, pass this video link around and the zuzula DOT com link to find "The Lost Tribe"...thanks, this feels good to all the band members. You see, U.A. was not good at pop music promotion...they got into it by doing the Beatle's movies, but who has to know how to promote to sell THAT? We almost signed with Epic and probably would have been better off with them

  • You can buy this song as an MP3 from zuzula DOT com - just search for The Lost Tribe and you'll find it...they won't let me post the link here, but maybe we can get it in the video...??

  • @DJSeri0usBLACK This can now be found on Destination Frantic #2 on Zone66. Was first comped on a U-SPACES compilation Lost Sixties Delights #3.
