Here we discuss Colin Powell's decision to support Barack Obama as well as Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live this past weekend.

Colin Powell, a Republican who was President Bush's first secretary of state, endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president Sunday and criticized the tone of Republican John McCain's campaign.

The former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said either candidate, both of them senators, is qualified to be commander in chief. But he said Obama is better suited to handle the nation's economic problems as well as help improve its standing in the world.

"It isn't easy for me to disappoint Sen. McCain in the way that I have this morning, and I regret that," Powell, interviewed on NBC's "Meet the Press," said of his longtime friend, the Arizona senator.

But, he added: "I think we need a transformational figure. I think we need a president who is a generational change and that's why I'm supporting Barack Obama, not out of any lack of respect or admiration for Sen. John McCain."

  • They both seem to think eachother is intelligent, hmm?lol...Gotta ask a question to these two "guys"...is it racism when 9 out of every 10 blacks are voting for Obama? also, u compare abortion and people dying in the war, our military is 100% volunteer, are the babies being aborted volunteering?

  • u bring up some valid points...of course got to appreciate the dig on intelligence lol...but anyway i do agree that it has become a race race in some sense...and i think ANYONE voting for someone on the sole basis of race or gender is ridiculous

  • ..in the case of majority black people voting for obama...i think you also have to look at the economic break down as well...i truly believe anyone making under 250,000 it should be a no brainer to vote for obama....as far as abortion we can always argue back and forth...no one is ever PRO abortion but i totally believe in individuals rights to make that decision themselves

  • in my opinion this presidential race is a no brainer...on almost every issue...

  • McCain called it "liberal feminism"...I am Canadian and I am worried....OBAMA/BIDEN 08

  • Thanks for making this video! I was also really pleased with Powell's statement today. It was very well said. Oh, and as a woman I have noooo idea how a woman votes for Palin. It's like getting married to a gun that's shooting you in the face...can only be explained by ignorance or a death wish.

oh, and SNL last night was awesome. I was so jealous of Amy and alec getting to tell off palin to her face with palin just having to sit there and pretend she's a good sport.

  • @HarryOrielly I think the bigger question, Harry, would be does Colin Powell CARE what or who Barack is. When push came to shove, he got 98% of the Black vote, and men like Powell who were MADE by the Republican Party, and who lapped up all they had to offer, voted color in the end. I would have guessed that we were beyond that...I will never be so surprised by anything again. OR Disgusted.

  • Does Clin Powell know that Obama is the biggest FRAUD of ALL TIME who has pulled “THE SCAM of the CENTURY”- a CON-MAN who has deceived America- not only did they cover his CRIMINAL past and FORGED birth certificate but they R still covering-up - The powerful rich have complete control over the news-media which refuse to print the TRUTH- His past has been completely hidden at the cost of millions- He never misses an opportunity to be seen on TV & CON America–

  • a couple of points. if i were really curious about hitler, which i'm not, i've been educated enough his being, i wouldn't just do simple research; i would do more hardcore research which i've done enough of - maybe simple research is good enough for since you're making that advisement, but not for me. you're unaware of my background so i'd walk light on the matter of the Jews who are a part of me

  • I'm not comparing her to the final result which was the holocaust but to his use/abuse of german pride to gain power. Had he not had his cabinet friends change the laws to make him president when hindenburg died there would have been an election and he may never have made himself dictator and do what he did. Mao was another leader who abused power to censor views not his own & claimed to be for the poor while they died and he grew fat. Palin's abused power and lied about it...it should end there

  • barmaids...you guys just don't do yourself justice using bumper sticker slogans. I seriously doubt you are anywhere near old enough to understand how Hitler came to power and inspired the masses. If you are curious you can do some simple research. The problem with doing research about Hitlers inspiration is it may cause you to change your way of thinking. Please don't insult the lives of 6 million dead Jews by comparing Palin to Hitler and stop reading bumper stickers. It makes you ignorant.

  • I don't think Obama will change the country for the better..I've said it before, that he'll be like Jimmy Carter..anything he wants to do will be blocked by TPTB. However, despite the ornamental nature of the presidency..and the fanfare he receives internationally, He's more likely at this point to salvage our international reputation..even though we're dying as a country..Bush cronies are going to make our downfall harder.

  • voluntary u mean, because they are paid.
