@realjanuary Re: standing up direction, it depends on the purpose of the roll. In this instance, the roll was facilitating the breakfall for the throw which followed, and was going to be cut short, so stand-up direction was not as important as good rolling. Later, we'll have students stand facing both forwards and backwards, as the situation is what determines the direction.
@realjanuary We're aware of the stand up, will be developing the breakfalls further to include it. As this was a first look, for most of the students, we opted to keep it simple. Will examine the palm down option tonight and see if it helps any beginners having issues.
Thanks for putting up the vids. Seeing them is the closest I've been to NUIM for a while. Here's some questions and hopefully useful comments I would have shared on the falling/rolling:
The thrust kick from the back fall is useful for a tactical stand up too (as used in the 1up 1 down game)
Palm down instead of knuckle down for shoulder roll helps the elbow / collapsing problem (pushing vs. pulling shape).
@cerysie cool on the stand up and pitching it for the audience.
I'll look at knuckles-down rolls myself to see where they are better suited than palm-down rolls.

Choice of direction when standing up in guard?
