As much as I love Motown I dont think they gave Debarge and specially El enought freedom to be themselves. I see El like trying to put together a memorized performance rehearsed with Gordy.In fact there is the vid here on youtube with Mr Gordy teaching that superoldschool corny body language to El.Definately old for the 80s.He was never alowed ot be himself.They wanted be to the this oldschool crooner,later they wanted him to be the next MJ,and so on.El felt trapped into spectations
