Buffy would've picked Angel only because he was the one that made sense while Spike was the one that went to the end for her. Then again, Angel (series wise) kinda turned into a wuss with his obsession with becoming human again so Spike would win on wuss versus man man factor.

It's not a bad question, it's one I've been wondering for years, although after hearing various BTVS writer's opinion I had my answer. But come on!! It seemed forced when in S5 of Angel, Spike just decided not to go after her!!!!!!! Not Spikelike (devotion til death) at all!!!! At least it seems James personally wanted it. Thanks for askin'.

lol i am sad to say that i never kept up with angel, i only watched buffy!! it was through a friend, years later that i found out that spike comes back on angel after the finale of buffy! then i read about the episode that you're talking about, and i really just think that they couldnt get sarah to come back, and they ha dno other way to end that storyline of both men in love with her! lol :-)
