There is plenty of information around this specific protest. But at the very basic level the aims of this particular act was to protest the very prohibitions on protest that the G20 summit had imposed.
By singing "O Canada" the protestors are indicating that they recognise themselves as citizens, and recognise their right to act with all the rights that citizenship entails.
Whether or not they were asked to leave is irrelevant. Why should they have to leave their own city?

This is the opposite of anarchy, anarchy is little to no government, this is complete government control. This is the government infringing on the publics right to free speech, anarchy means NO government aka NO censorship and it does not mean 20,000 police officers coming in and trying to get them to riot.

@szawitko You and your chums also have a duty, as supposedly decent citizens, to stop vandals when you see them, to report them, to make a citizens arrest. Did any of you morons do that, or did you just cheer things along? I saw one clip of a guy (ordinary citizen) who had grabbed a black bloc asshole and was holding him, then he was set upon by the rest of you supposed "peaceful" protesters. Not one person tried to help him, and the vandal was set free.

@szawitko Everybody here seems delighted with city-wide anarchy, and seem to want to take the opportunity to tell cops to fuck off without repercussion. Every clip I've seen has no shortage of "peaceful" protesters jeering at cops and cheering on the supposedly "minority" of bad apples. Too bad the breakdown of civility cuts both ways. If you and your little chums want to have a kick at cops just doing their job, you might in turn get kicked. So take your lumps and stop being a baby.

@szawitko Of course completely innocent people are going to get caught up when all chaos is breaking out, not neccessarily at the moment you were there, but generally throughout. That's why ORDER is important. Cops can make mistakes too. It's not some sort of 'game' where good people have little labels on them. How the fuck do they know where projectiles are coming from? And exactly what sort of "protest" is going on here? I don't see placards or banners, only idiots taunting police.

@uccomic And yes, cops are human beings, but they were protected with riot gear and were armed. None of the people in the crowd were. Their job is to protect innocent people from violence people, not to assume they are one in the same and to treat everyone like a criminal. Completely innocent people were detained for 20 hours without food or a phone call. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about buddy.
