Well I never worked in a bank but I do work around people who have money and some not all but a good number think their money is a ranking system if they have more money then you that must mean they are better then you. Another big one is the typical one I am sure everyone has heard and that is "I PRACTICALLY OWN THIS COMPANY."
I work in customer service in a call center. I think people like to see how far they can push it, because they know you have to remain calm or you will be reprimanded or lose your job. I really hate this philosophy of "the customer is always right" because most of the time, they're not right, they're idiots. And rude idiots to boot. I work in a call center & think maybe it's worse there because people can't see you. But it happens in face-to-face customer service too. Some people just suck.
Good points and a very good question you have poised. Why people are rude in a place of business is beyond me. I guess it has to do with how people are raised? Or people just think it is OK to be a jackass. My first job was at a ice cream place and the customer did not like how his banana split was made, so he slammed it upside down on the counter while screaming at everyone...... like I said jackasses are in the world.
Some customers feel self-entitled when they are spending money on a product or service. Hence the abuse.
