David Cole is a professor at Georgetown University Law Center, a volunteer staff attorney for the Center for Constitutional Rights, the legal affairs correspondent for The Nation, and a commentator on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered." A graduate of Yale University and Yale Law School, he clerked for Judge Arlin Adams on the Third Circuit. He has litigated many First Amendment cases, including Texas v. Johnson and United States v. Eichman, which extended First Amendment protection to flagburning. Cole's book, Enemy Aliens: Double Standards and Constitutional Freedoms in the War on Terorism (2003), was awarded an American Book Award and the Hefner First Amendment Prize.
Ruth Wedgwood is an expert in treaty negotiations, diplomacy and diplomatic history, human rights, international law, international crimes and tribunals, strategic and security issues, terrorism, U.S. Congress and foreign policy, United Nations, and use of force. Wedgwood is a member of the secretary of State's Advisory Committee for International Law, the Defense Policy Board of the Department of Defense, the C.I.A. Historical Review Panel and the National Security Study Group of the Hart-Rudman Commission on National Security in the 21st Century. In addition, she is U.S. member of the U.N. Human Rights Committee, chairman of the research committee for the American Society of International Law, adviser to the U.S. Department of Defense on international law issues arising from 9/11, and serves on the board of editors for the American Journal of International Law. She is a member of the board of directors for Freedom House, senior fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations, and independent expert for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Earlier, she was Charles Stockton Professor of International Law at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, R.I., former director of studies at the Hague Academy for International Law in the Netherlands, and former federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York. Wedgwood received her J.D. from Yale University, where she was executive editor of the Yale Law Journal. After law school, she was a Supreme Court law clerk.
