Novation Launchpad Beat Repeat (Using User Mode 2)

Having tried out the Beat Repeat effect using Automap we are now going to take a look at how to map the Beat Repeat to the User Mode 2 Section of the Launchpad. If you want to use the Launchpad's standard Control Surface Mappings including the Clip Matrix, Mixer etc, seemingly you can't have Automap MIDI on at the same.

The MIDI messages output by User Mode 2 are Note Values C, C#, D etc, so to map a Continuous control such as the Grid Value on the Beat Repeat you have to map a range of keys.

Since the MIDI message is Note it's behaviour is Toggle, rather than Momentary, unlike how it was set up in Automap MIDI.

ableton blows any DAW away with its user interface, thats my opinion coming from Logic Pro I couldn't get my work any more expressive, until I got live. With live I had a whole new world open in front of my computer.

@hilato Absolutely! About 95% of every track I make now is done in the Session View, and I only commit to an arrangement to do the final tweaks at the end. It's a much more interactive / engaging process.

Hi, is there any chance you could offer some help? im very new!

When i drag a beat repeat onto an audio track, i dont get any other options, like the macros etc... i can only get the macros on when i create a new instrument track and add a beat repeat over the instrument track, but then i cant add a wav sample on a midi track. in your video all your tracks seem to be audio tracks, any suggestions would be really appreciated. Is there anyway you could post the original sound file? i love the song and i wanna try my hand at doing the beat repeat on the same song. Im not gonna post it it up as my own song but i would like to listen to the original.

also i think u made a mistake at the end, the first button should make the repeat value go to 0 but it doesnt.

you can actually do automap and regular mode at the same time. i forget exactly how (i believe it was tom cosm aka cosmcosm who posted a vid with this info in it if you wanna look for it) but i think you press user 1 and user 2 at the same time or something like that...
