I try to convince a sulphur-crested cockatoo not to eat my garden plants in the mornings. Him and his mates have become very destructive of late, ripping up and chomping all my succulents and geraniums.

Years ago the locals fed them and cockies have *long* memories! I guess they are getting me back for not feeding them.

  • You Australians are so lucky. You can wake up in the morning and have PARROTS in your backyard!

In America? We get lame sparrows and starlings.

  • @JanusHoW but you guys get fireflys and humming birds!

  • are they wild?!?

  • @Mozartnol Yes, there is a large community of them in the Manly area.

  • @MacarenaPanda this bird is priceless...its free! And all of the birds you have in cages would be priceless too if you d free them!

  • what the hell are succulants?

  • @verticalsmurf I don't know why this cc'd to you. I was responding to aapolla89 and for some reason it responded to you as well.

  • @aapolla89 Untill about the 1970's, rhyming slang was very popular in Australia, it was never intended to offend. At first you guys were called Yanks. But then slang hit its stride and you became 'Seppo's' (because Yank rhymes with septic tank). Then we found out that that did offend you guys so the older people went back to calling you Yanks, while the younger people just call you Americans. There are lists of Aussie rhyming slang if you google it. Some of it's really funny! 'avagoodone!

  • @CockatooMan Here's another one for ya - You guys call someones bum a fanny, whereas in Australia, a fanny is a girls fun bits. Had me very confused as a kid, especially when bum bags or 'fanny packs' were popular. And the strage thing is, we used to wear our bum bags to the back, and you guys wore the fanny packs at the front - well, at least on all the American sit-coms that I used to watch. English is a funny language...
