  • Why don't we all just stop with the damn Small Block / Big Block crap? It was a Chevy thing since the beginning, and always will be. Chevy only has 2 different engine sizes, Big Block (427, 454, 502, etc), and Small Block (305, 327, 350, 400, etc). Ford and Chrysler went by families, which is why none of the Ford families will fit in either this category, or that one. And some will technically fit into BOTH categories. We can do this shit forever.. but it will never be right either way.

  • Bob Chandler called. he wants his truck back lol

Then ford had subgroups in the SBF y-blocks,windsor,cleveland, MBF had FE (ford edsel), FT (Ford truck) blocks, then BBF had MEL (Mercury Edsel Lincoln) and 385-series. All we can all agree on is that Ford MBF 427's 428, 390's all respectively competed or picked apart BBC thats why Fords interesting always more with less.

  • @joebeckham

Your right chevy had two families easy to understand. Whereas ford had 3 engine families SBF MBF BBF.Ford used the spacings to determine where the engine size was to be placed SBF spaced 4.38inch MBF spaced 4.63inch and BBF spaced 4.90inch. Lots of people get confused with fords because the 429's are BBF and the 427's and 428's are MBF. 410 could be a MBF and BBF it goes on and on with other displacements. Ford used MBF for equal displ. with lighter weight than GM DODGE

The chevy 427 z11?? is a Big block it was a 409 variant. Only small block that your talkin about that has a 427 displacement is the new Ls7.
