Great camera work....this is a Tony master class.

My friend Walter who is right here besides me listening to this clip used to work and live in Tony's house on 141 St. Between Amsterdam and Broadway in NYC. Tony made him go out on occasion to buy him Cigars and Doughnuts.

I wonder a bit if Tony was fighting that drum setup. That snare is deader than his usual sound, the mount toms are mounted kinda weird and the hi hat is set up low relative to the snare. He sounds great, of course - like he's overcoming his circumstances....

I really didnt fully understand the drums until I heard Tony ....
I had a real close friend with the same name...he wasn't instrumentally talented though...had a hear 4music...could not play a lick dough

Tony's playing whilst being very aggressive is so hypnotic! He can take an idea (a 'simple' rudiment like the single stroke roll) and get so deep within it by adding different colors, textures and dynamics that it takes on a whole new meaning! This man had so much soul behind everything he played! A true musical inspiration!

A bona fide force of nature!!

Supreme time, taste and technique; I feel so fortunate that I was able to study for a significant period of time with this absolutely amazing musician and human being!
Peace! Gene Fourton

His bass drum technique is never mentioned but he had great feet as well as his hands. So unique and musical. Incomparable. His straight ahead playing with Miles when he was 18 is hard to even fathom that level of talent at such a young age.
RIP Tony your legacy is secure forever
