Welfare are for those Americans who fall on hard times. You liberals are just god damn lazy and irresponsible and want to leach off the system forever.

I was on Welfare for 3 months back in 1990 and went out ,got 2 part time jobs and then welfare naturally reduced my cheque according to earnings and then when i scored my present fulltime job got off of it and never looked back. I have lived a success story from those days and appreciate the help at that time having to care for 2 children on my own.Thats the way the system is supposed to work. ;o)

Welfare is supposed to be short-term financial aid for people who are LOOKING FOR A JOB. For some people, it's a lifestyle choice. That's wrong. The reason why a lot of people hate welfare is because certain people take advantage of it. If there was no more welfare, I think some of us would chip in to help Joe the Plumber's family if they were homeless.

Well then let's deal with thenegative aspect of it, by having revisions, or putting hard limits on how long people can be on welfare, but Don't toss the baby out with the bathwater.

skyflyer900-

Why didn't welfare eliminate poverty during the 80's and 70's? Do you think the welfare state created an incentive for welfare dependency?

Hell yeah private charities help millions get back on their feet. They require an actual commitment, rather than the get in line, here's a check mentality.

Basically, the welfare state acts as a subsidy for poverty, encouraging people to stay on the system.

Look at the actual consequences of programs, not the intentions of them.

peopel dont need welfare, they need a kick in the ass to get up and work for what they want! back in the day thier was no welfare and people still made it. My dad grew up a dirt poor hispanic in south tx, and had no type of welfare. But he knew that in america, man can make a great future, so he worked his ass off and let nothing stop him. now he is well off and has everything he has ever wanted, all because of HARD WORK!
