Stock E60 M5 SMG at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, many thanks to Roy & Phil at CA Automotive for inviting me along for the day.

We were hoping to run my stock E60 M5 against an M3 that had been supercharged by CA Automotive but unfortunately the weather wasn't on out side and it was too wet to get any decent traction in the M3. I decided to plough on regardless and wanted to get a video of the HUD showing a 0-180mph run but because of the wet track I opted for a slow rolling start from approx 5mph and only got to 172mph before easing off due to standing water.

Except for a simple de-limit, done for me by CA Automotive, my M5 is 100% stock.

Excuse the shaky video, I have a headrest mount and window mount for the video but neither can get the right angle for the HUD so I had to hold it in my left hand....so yes this was a 1 handed run to 172mph in the wet.

  • I thought these were limited to 155?

  • BMW offer an expensive option to delimit the car from the factory but I had mine delimited by C A Automotive, that's the only deviation from stock and the reason I could excess 155.

  • did you have it in S6?

  • I had it in S6 earlier in the day when it was a little drier and doing a few launches but because of the standing water and the fact S6 gives wheel slip from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd I played it safe and had it in P500S S5 MDM to the video above.

  • Cool, I like color!! Does it do the radio stations, blinkers, NAV, G-meter, coolant and oil pressure like the Z06..??

  • In all modes you can also have warnings turned on or off. The warnings simply popup an icon for traction control off, fuel low, washers fluid low, oil low, outside temp <0°C, etc there is no option for a live coolant temp, oil temp, etc like the Z06.

As for the G-force meter....unfortunately there isn't one on any BMW at present so I have to resort to Dynolicios iPhone app or a vbox.

  • Great video, too bad it wasn't a sunny day..

  • It looked slow at the end 61 and 53 mph looked fast than that

  • @Cronoswing

yes but a spaceshuttle is faster lol

    seriously compare stuff that's comparable.

    Does a zx6r have a trunk ? can it carry 5 people ?

And in a car you don't have to dress up like a camp power ranger.

  • My zx6r is faster lol

  • You run out of real estate real fast at that speed.

  • These M5s are insane!

  • Actually technically this was 3-172 mph xD

  • @tomhodgson77 They are capable of over 200mph ;)

  • how much did you pay to remove the limiter in ca automotive? and how much in the bmw factory?

  • Don't you shift too late?
