Can't talk about profits until I understand costs, and I can't understand costs until I know something about how production works!

  • Why is it that the hiring of the second employee MORE THAN doubles the output- 14 units instead of 12? I don't understand.

  • Well, it certainly won't happen with every worker, but it typically does occur at the outset. Some of it is because of specialization and dividing up the tasks (one person writes "I love," the other writes "economics," and each of them gets better and better at his or her task as they go along). It might also be synergy - just by having a team, the individuals work better/faster.
