Can you identify this piece of music? If so, I will be forever in your debt...

Just to provide some context, this track appeared in an episode of "Inside/Out," which was a series of 15-minute educational films broadcast regularly on PBS. For more info, you can read here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inside/Out.

I can also remember this music popping up in episodes of Zoom, public service announcements, etc. In retrospect, it seems like, if you were a kid growing up in the Seventies and early Eighties, this music was everywhere...

BUT WHAT IS IT???

Go on, then. Tell me!

  • @MisterTimewarp (Cue the Leprechauns) You bet your crooked shillelagh it does, me boyle! :)

  • The title of the episode from the Inside/Out series that this music is in, is "Because it's fun"(about a boy who doesn't understand why kids do things for fun. he thinks there has to be a reason, like sports). but you probably already knew that, since you posted the clip (sans the video portion of it).

  • It's definitely incidental music from Inside/Out (I have all the episodes of the series, plus a ton of other educational/school programs such as Self Incorporated). but as for WHAT the music is titled or who played it (I presume that is your question and not what show it came from), then I don't know. there are no credits at the end of these shows. I just enjoy it as it is. but it sounds like an Irish jig, tho, doesn't it?

  • Unfortunately, I cannot track down the artist or title of this piece. However, I do know that it was used as the theme for a PBS instructional classroom show called, "Song Sampler," which opened with a candy-box styled logo (a reference to the Whitman Sampler box). I believe the program aired during the mid- to late 1970s.

Nonetheless, I haven't heard this track in ages; thank you for posting.

  • This music was used in TV commercials during the 1970's

  • I remember this from an early 80s bike safety PSA with a Shirt Tales raccoon riding a bike. Would also love to know the name of the tune!

  • Aw geeez.... This is gonna bug me for days! I completely remember this and a whole slew of other tunes. The intro to Wordsmith is another that comes to mind. They do seem to be 'clip art' like music cues.

  • This is what they used to call "drop needle" music. There was a record player with a timer that started as soon as you put the needle on the spinning record. You payed the company for the amount of time it was played in your TV show or commercial.

  • I swear I was going to say it sounds like background music from Inside Out but then I saw your description...sorry!

  • It's definitely production music. You may want to try a search on the Killer Tracks website. They've got a huge search database.
