  • It's kind of sad that these great instruments rarely get to be played. A violin isn't meant to be stayed behind a see-through vault. I understand the great significance of that particular violin, but it should be played more often than it is.

  • i have to say the background music is really gay

  • @Grobanite122549 The instrument belongs to the city of Genoa, Italy. They give it out on loan temporarily to the winner of the "Premio Paganini" international violin competition. Sometimes they might loan it to a musician for a limited amount of time for other reasons as well. In this case Mintz was the winner of the Premio Paganini competition.

  • @Grobanite122549 These types of people who own the priceless instruments often don't know anything at all about music. They'd never let him have it permanently.

  • The Cannon is a great sounding fiddle, arguably the 'greatest known to the world - as far as that goes....'. But I know an old man, who lives in south Alabama, who owns a BIG RED Guarneri del Gesu that was made in 1720. The tone that fiddle puts out will peel the varnish off "Il Cannone", and any other 'Cremona' fiddle known to exist.. Guaranteed!

  • Il Cannone is maintained in playable condition, taken out and played monthly by its curator and each year by the winner of the Premio Paganini contest. Occasionally it is loaned to musicians. Besides Mintz in 1997, Eugene Fodor in 1999 in San Francisco, several times in New York, by jazz violinist Regina Carter. and in February 2006 in London's Paganini festival

  • is he just borrowing it or is it his now?

  • he hardly played the instrument, too much emotion, where is the concert!?. this is bull shit!!!

  • @genmaximus110 i totally agree, but it was in Paganini who left it to the city of Genoa in his will. So it's up to them. I guess they just want to preserve what would be a national treasure?

  • Someone knows What music played in 8 min??
