Synopsis: Are we prepared for dealing with the prospect that humanity is not the end of evolution? TechnoCalyps is an intriguing three-part documentary on the notion of transhumanism by Belgian visual artist and filmmaker Frank Theys.

The latest findings in genetics, robotics, artificial intelligence, bionics and nanotechnology appear in the media every day, but with no analysis of their common aim: that of exceeding human limitations.

In TechnoCalyps the director conducts his enquiry into the scientific, ethical and metaphysical dimensions of technological development. The film includes interviews by top experts and thinkers on the subject worldwide, including Marvin Minsky, Terence McKenna, Hans Moravec, Bruce Sterling, Robert Anton Wilson, Richard Seed, Margareth Wertheim, Kirkpatrick Sale, Ralph C. Merkle, Mark Pesce, Ray Kurzweil, Rabbi Youssouf Kazen, Rael and many others.

Part 1: Transhuman

The first part gives an overview of recent technological developments (biogenetics, artificial intelligence, robotics, implants, nanotechnology) and prognoses made by leading scientists about the impact of these developments in the near future.

  • 13:00 "Our bodies could be beautiful electronic designs that shimmer prismatically in the morning light. It could become a piece of marble...or totally mutate into some fluid type of luminescent, snake-like quality."

lol. New-age weirdo wants to be a shape-shifting reptilian. :-D

  • The monkey bit made my stomach turn. I see the beauty in humans while some of the figures commenting in this video may not as much. Love, companionship, passion, creative expression, respect for other life forms are above all else important. The future is going to be very very weird indeed, lets hope it is not one without the aforementioned qualities.

  • I've never seen anything more monstrous in my life! Someone here had a brilliant remark - how could this guy transfer the consciousness from a body to another, when science doesn't truly know what the consciousness really is? This is against nature and against God! These crazy scientists should really be careful! They are playing with notions their little brains can barely contain! These irresponsible actions might backfire!

  • The human race is to corrupted to use this kind of technolegy for good.

Look what we did with the nuclear technolegy.....Remeber Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

  • "Consciousness can be transplanted."

He - let alone the rest of humanity - doesn't know what consciousness is or where it comes from. This is complete nonsense; bordering on infantile. It would be laughable if it weren't so horrifying. This is all based on the assumption that matter is real and that mind is made up of complex organizations of matter. This brutish, simplistic notion will likely be imposed on the unwilling. I do not regard this as a good thing.

    Killuminati.

  • I see all the haters commenting on these videos ...once i become fully cybernetic im going to destroy you all ...hahahahaha.

  • @123456789boobie not everyone believes in GOD. so your comment does not apply to everyone, if you don't agree with this then just don't do it, nobody is forcing you. You can keep believing in fairy tales and talking snakes, I however choose to move forward as an intelligent being capable of choosing his own evolutionary path.

  • Did that freak, Natasha Vita More, actually say the body is an extension of fashion?

  • OMG i dont consider myself sensitive to many thing. I love zombie and gore filled war movies but the brain experiments just filled me with a sheer level of disgust and dread that I have never felt before. maybe because its actually real. This is freaking wrong. For goodness sake science comunity as a whole concentrate on making super cheap ipods not changing humans.
