The San Francisco Civil Service Commission and the Department of Human Resources in a sneak attack organized by outgoing Mayor Gavin Newsom sought to push through a rule change that would eliminate the right of seniority for city workers when lay off. Now SF city workers can bump less senior workers in other departments but under the new rule proposal they can only bump in their own department. This would lead to more nepotism, corruption and cronyism and a big blow against the civil service system.
Peace and Freedom Party San Francisco County Central Committee member Bradley Weidmaier spoke out against this attack at the Commission meeting on December 20, 2010.
