@saintpaddydaybride When the tide come in the holes get filled in. Until that they look like ankle breakers to me. Other people walking on the beach shouldn't have to always be looking out for holes. I guess it's just me? But personally I kick some sand back in and step around the edge of the holes to fill most of it back in.

@mowerdog why?? it's the ocean; seawater will just fill the holes back in.

Where about are you on the OBX? I know metal detecting on NPS beaches is illegal. Nice finds!

Rest assured that all holes are refilled on every hunt. The custom here on the Outer Banks is to refill the holes at the end of each hunt, providing the incoming tide has not already done so. In 35 years of hunting the OBX, no one has complained about this method. It gives more time to the hunt and provides temporary swimming pools for the sand crabs to play in. You should see the little scutters jumping into those holes and having fun while we look for treasure.
