You need Oxygen for fire to burn.
There is oxygen in water.
Therefore pouring water on a fire will just make it burn more and hotter.
-
Um... nucleotides the enemy of oxygen??? Nucleotides contain oxygen.

Does anyone else find their openings awkward to watch? They just sit there waiting for the music to end in a poorly lit basement studio. (No offense intended, but maybe they could put a little more effort into it)

I think Jen Peeples has a sister that is a sub teacher in my town...

@KaitonsCorner: Thank you! I'm glad to hear someone knows what they're talking about.
-
@Serostern Well if you pour water on inflamated oil you would actually really make it burn more... TROLLFACE ;)

@lewisner "biologically immortal" creatures are creatures that (although often highly mortal in their environment) growing older does not affect their mortality in a negative way, in other words, the chance of death in does not increase by age.
-
@sinachiniforoosh "but even the so-called biologically immortal creatures (which exist in real world), "
Theres no life form which is immortal in it's own life span?
-
@lewisner interesting point... but even the so-called biologically immortal creatures (which exist in real world), furthermore, being immortal may look enough, but if there is any chance of the species' death, (a non-zero chance in a certain time interval, which is almost certainly the case) reproduction is a safer way to move on...

@sinachiniforoosh Reproduction is important to Life "as we know it" but if you were an immortal form of Life it would be irrelevant, and if the human race was immortal reproduction would be inimical. So let's say you were a Self Aware computer why would you need or want to make copies of yourself?
-
@lewisner I'm actually very interested in definition of life, and I never really thought about the specific example you mentioned: infertile organisms. but I think you do agree that reproduction is a very important part of life, right? the tendency to maintain one's continuity, whether by metabolism, or by making a copy of one's self... I mean infertility is an illness, your point about the definition is right, but I just can't accept to ignore self replication in definition of life...

@sinachiniforoosh The "definition" of a "Living thing" has to cover all possible forms of life, not just those we know about. In the Terminator movies the various Terminators are alive though their life is not Organic or Carbon based. Science says life could be based on Silicon, but since we have encountered Silicon based life we cannot know what it would be like.
OMG that's Chris from the prank calls !!!
