The track "Alina" is taken from Arvo Pärt's great album "Alina" (ECM Records, 1999). Listen & Enjoy it.

"I could compare my music to white light which contains all colours. Only a prism can divide the colours and make them apperr; this prism could be the spirit of the listener." (Arvo Pärt)

Composer: Arvo Pärt
Piano: Alexander Malter

  • Can't describe...

  • Very lovely work tiad~worthy of the great man himself.

  • @MrCrazyAlligator

You are correct, sir,in that the piece is only two pages. The rhythms, however, are open for interpretation by the performer.Though it seems simple to play,it is very difficult to perform and portray the emotions that Pärt wanted conveyed.Anyone can plunk out notes and simple intervals on the piano, but it takes a true artist to take the notes that Pärt has provided and make the listener feel struggle, pain, peace, love, something so deep in the soul..I feel this has been accomplished.

  • it takes a while before you realise it's finished, and then you realise it's not

  • This music gets me silent, unwilling to do anything else but listen. But it makes me sad to, not necessary in a good way. Bittersweet I think.

  • How could I ever have forgotten how powerful this piece of music is

  • @B1tchyAngel school library or public

  • My name is Alina. I am from Romania. I belived that this represent me so much It is really unbelievable how much. I feal like this man entered into my soul and made such a music. I almost stop breathing everytime i lisened. Thank you

  • @MrCrazyAlligator Even after being repeated the song is such a masterpiece, the listener doesn't even notice it is being repeated. He / she's pretty much lost in the silence. Thanks for replying :)

  • @railpressureflip The sheetmusic for this work is just 2 pages long. It's also extremely simple; literally anyone who can read sheetmusic can play this. So no, it's not improvised. The same two pages are being played over and over again by the way. The entire work is barely over a minute long. In this recording, it's repeated about eight times, each time a little different.

Of course I am not belittling this work. Anyone can play it, but that's not the point.
