A Sikorsky CH-54 Tarhe puts on a demo at McClellan AFB near Sacramento, ca, on May 25, 1991. at the time it was assigned to the US ARMY NATIONAL GUARD. It was powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney T-73-P-700 turboshaft From my old VHS tapes.engines,4,800 shp each.It had a payload of 20,000 lbs.and a Max takeoff weight of 47,000 lbs.The height was 25 ft 5 in., length 88 ft. 6 in., and a rotor diameter of of 72 ft. From my old VHS tape.
How strange! why decommission it?!,if there's nothing to substitute with. if it works even nowadays for civil mission, doesn't it proof that it's resource isn't exhausted yet.Yep in military sphere Pave low's and Ch-47 have assumed the heavy load carrying missions, but non of them are so perfectly designed, directly for heavy loads, and non of them have such perfect construction and shape. It could be easily developed as a modular platform helicopter with various cabins for different mission.
